Flashback to a basket Katherine made for a custome Flashback to a basket Katherine made for a customer’s parrot back in 2009. Sparki the parrot would get upset when her people spent time on their deck without him so they wanted a basket to bring him outside in. It has a front door for putting the parrot inside. It also has a lid so that the person could place or remove a metal perch. Katherine happened to see the customer in town yesterday and reminded me of the basket.

Hummingbird photos. First 3 are a Rufous Hummingbi Hummingbird photos. First 3 are a Rufous Hummingbird from a few days ago. They migrate south about now. Same one perched on willow and feeding on fuschia flowers.
The next 3 are Anna’s Hummingbirds which are year round residents. The images show the bird feeding on pole bean flowers.
P.S. Attentive willow growers might notice the willow leaf galls caused by a sawfly Euura proxima (formerly Pontania proxima) in the first two photos.

Two large Irish potato baskets that Katherine rece Two large Irish potato baskets that Katherine recently made. These are about 24 inches in diameter. There is actually a third one just a little smaller that you see in the background of the last photo as well. The colors are the natural colors of the willow bark of different varieties of willow that we grow and coppice on our farm.

View of some of the willows from a step ladder. Lo View of some of the willows from a step ladder. Looking fairly good despite the dry year we’ve had. Some lower leaves starting to yellow and drop though it will be a long time yet before the colorful rods are bare.
